Top SMSF trades by Australian Sharesight users in FY24/25

Welcome to our annual Australian financial year trading snapshot for SMSFs, where we dive into this year’s top trades by Sharesight users. Below we will look at the top trades overall, plus the top trades in individual stocks. This allows us to observe the broader investment trends by Sharesight users with SMSFs, while also giving us an opportunity to zoom into the most popular stocks and the market-moving news behind them.

Top trades by SMSF investors in FY24/25

In FY24/25, SMSF investors’ top trade was in Woodside Energy (ASX: WDS), which saw a downward trend in its share price for the majority of the year. The top trades were followed by BHP (ASX: BHP), which saw some fluctuation in its share price throughout the year and largely continued on a downward trend since reaching an all-time high in December 2023. Overall, the top SMSF trades were dominated by stocks in the mining, minerals and banking sectors — a result very much on track with previous years.
