Get the full Sharesight experience with the app and web platform
If you’re already using the Sharesight app, you can unlock the full Sharesight experience by combining the app with the web platform. The Sharesight app makes it easy to get a quick view of your performance wherever you are, while the web platform gives you access to the full suite of tools for performance reporting, in-depth analysis and tax planning. In this article, we’ll show you how to use the app and web platform together to get the most out of Sharesight, along with a closer look at some of the powerful tools available on the web platform.
Sharesight app vs. web platform: What’s the difference?
Available on iOS and Android devices, the Sharesight app is a read-only companion to the web platform that lets you stay on top of your portfolio performance wherever you are. You can view real-time returns, check the key details of any investment in your portfolio, and even create a custom watchlist.
The web platform, on the other hand, is where you can go to take full control of your portfolio, from adding and editing trades to managing dividends, distributions and corporate actions. It’s also where you will find Sharesight’s full suite of advanced reporting tools for performance analysis, benchmarking, asset allocation, tax planning and more.
While each platform has its own benefits, using them in tandem gives you the most complete Sharesight experience — whether you track your portfolio from your phone, tablet or desktop.
How to make the most of Sharesight’s web platform
Here’s how to make the most of Sharesight’s web platform to analyse your performance, refine your strategy and prepare for tax time.
Contextualise your performance by adding a benchmark
Sharesight’s web platform allows you to benchmark your portfolios against any of the 750,000+ global stocks, ETFs and funds that we support. This is a powerful tool for evaluating performance and refining your investment strategy. For example, by comparing your portfolio’s returns to a relevant market index, you can see how well your investments are performing relative to the broader market. This provides important context into your portfolio’s performance, allowing you to determine whether your returns can be attributed to market conditions or your own investing decisions.
The benchmarking tool allows you to see exactly where (and when) you align with and diverge from your chosen benchmark, including a detailed comparison of capital gains, dividends and currency gains.
Measure the success of your asset allocation strategy with custom groups
A highly useful but lesser-known feature of Sharesight’s web platform is the ability to create custom groups based on your asset allocation strategy. Essentially, this feature allows you to group your investments into custom subgroups or categories of your choice. For example, you may choose to group your assets by asset class, time horizons, market cap, theme, or countless other classifications. Once you have created these custom groups, you can use them in a wide variety of Sharesight reports, which will help you determine how each group is performing and evaluate the success of your asset allocation strategy as a whole.

Access Sharesight’s powerful suite of reporting tools
Using the Sharesight app is a great way to get a quick snapshot of your performance, while our more advanced reporting tools can be found on the web platform. For example, the web platform gives you access to a suite of powerful reports, including performance, future income, diversity, exposure, drawdown risk and more.1 These reports can help you plan your cashflow, refine your investment strategy and identify hidden concentration risk, giving you a clearer view of your portfolio performance and any rebalancing opportunities.
By running the future income report, you can see projected investment income up to three years into the future, along with paid, pending and announced payments.
Get ready for tax time
Whether you file your own tax return or work with an accountant, you will benefit from our tax planning tools, which are designed to help you (or your accountant) fill out your tax return. For example, the taxable income report provides a breakdown of your dividend, distribution and interest payments to help you complete your return. Capital gains tax (CGT) reports are available for Australian and Canadian investors, with an additional unrealised CGT report for Australian investors to support tax planning and scenario modelling. If you’re in another tax jurisdiction that calculates capital gains using the average cost method, you can also use the sold securities report to get a capital gains figure, which can be shared with your accountant to determine your capital gains tax.2
These reports (and any of the reports mentioned above) can be downloaded and exported to the file type of your choice, for easy sharing with your accountant or financial adviser. You also have the option to securely share your entire portfolio in just a few clicks.
With the unrealised capital gains report, you can model different tax loss selling scenarios to help you minimise your net capital gains and reduce your income tax.
